Workshop: KingKong interior panelling system
Folding Simulation and Design

The RoboFold Folding Simulation and Design workshop is a two day intensive workshop, exploring the new KingKong plugin for Grasshopper. The software simuates curved folding, and offers simple attractor functions to modulate an array of folded panels on a surface. The focus will be on building simulations of folding inspired by physical folding, and the comtrol of complex arrangements of panels, which will be realised with the CraftROBO vinyl cutter.
Day 1 - AM: Material Computation - intuitive techniques for designing shapes foldable by robots
Day 1 - PM: Folding Design - digitise fold patterns and use the KingKong plugin to simulate folding, design arrangements of panels with the attractor system, using differnet grid types, using different surface types, fill/empty feature, live baking feature
Day 2 - AM: Fabrication Data - refining the design for fabrication, outputing data
Day 2 - PM: Panel Assembly - cutting on the CraftROBO vinyl cutter, assembly of components

Workshop: Facade Design & Fabrication

The RoboFold Facade Design & Fabrication workshop is a five day intensive workshop, exploring new facade design software for the RoboFold metal forming process. The focus will be on parametric design for robotic manufacture and culminates in 1:1 facade fabrication. The event will be held in London at the RoboFold factory from December 10th-14th 2012.
Workshop participants will investigate the design of curved folding surface geometries in paper and card, and transfer these to Rhino's Grasshopper plugin to simulate folding and facilitate parametric facade design using the new RoboFold Components for Grasshopper.
Using the in-house CNC vinyl cutter and CNC router, various scale prototypes will be folded by hand and by robot. The final 1:1 facade will be formed from aluminium using 6-axis industrial robots.

Workshop participants will investigate the design of facade forms in paper and card, and transfer these to Rhino's Grasshopper plugin to simulate folding and robotics. This workshop will use simple exercises to generate designs that contain all the necessary information to be manufactured using specific fabrication techniques of CNC routers and laser cutters.

Following the success of the first three Shape To Fabrication conferences, London's premier architects, engineers, fabricators and contractors are back to dissect the details of a selection of international projects.
As the UK's dedicated Rhino user event for architects, this is the also place to be for the latest software announcements from the developers themselves.
The conference immediately follows four days of workshops from Rhino plugin developers and specialist fabricators, held at the RoboFold factory. Each team will also present their work and discuss their success and failures at the conference.
